2019 Honda Insight Prototype at the Chicago Auto Show

During the 2018 Chicago International Auto Show, Honda didn’t hold back as it showed off new models and let visitors take a virtual reality tour of the new Accord.  But, most exciting, was the anticipated 2019 Honda Insight Prototype on display at the Chicago Auto Show.

Honda had debuted the Insight Prototype at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year, and now it made a reappearance at the 2018 Chicago Auto Show.  You may recognize the name Honda Insight, back in the early-2000s and then again in the mid-2010s, the Insight was the first hybrid car sold in America, though it didn’t stay in production for very long either time.  Now, Honda brought it back with style and plenty of upgrades.

2019 Honda Insight Prototype Design & Features

Honda has designed the Insight to be a step above the Civic in their lineup for passenger cars.  Though it is easy to see the resemblance to the Honda Civic in the Insight, in fact, the Insight has replaced the Civic Hybrid entirely.  There is also a major difference from the old versions of the Honda Insight, which were a tiny two-seat hatchback and a subcompact five-door hatchback, respectively; the 2019 Insight is a part of the popular compact-to-midsize four-door sedan segment.

Compared to the past versions, and the now-replaced Honda Civic Hybrid, Honda has taken to making the Insight with a more sporty and athletic look.  Especially with its bold front styling and wide stance.  Overall, the design creates a very attractive and aerodynamic look.

And though Honda has been more hush-hush about many of the features and specifications of the 2019 Insight, there is some information available.  For instance, the future car will be powered by Honda’s two-motor full hybrid system.  And it is expected to receive an EPA combined fuel efficiency rating of 50 mpg or better—though the figures are not available as of yet.

Honda is also including the intuitive Honda Sensing® technologies as a standard feature on every 2019 Insight model.  This includes Collision Mitigation Braking System™, Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow and the new Traffic Sign Recognition feature.

Overall, the 2019 Honda Insight Prototype was a huge hit at the 2018 Chicago Auto Show.  The 2019 Honda Insight is expected to go on sale near the end of 2018 in the summer.
