Christmas at the Zoo in Indianapolis
The Indianapolis Zoo is once again hosting their Christmas at the Zoo 2017 in Indianapolis for the holiday. Families can come out at have a magical time exploring the festivities, lights and see all the animals that also like to play in the snow! And this year is even more special with more lights and the new Santa’s Village.
As the first zoo in the United States to hold a holiday lights event, the Indianapolis Zoo has always gone above and beyond in its holiday display—making people of all ages go “ohhhh” and “awww.” Plus, there are many more activities for visitors to participate in. There are several animals that will stay up to enjoy the winter night, like tigers, sea lions, walrus, red pandas, brown bears and more! And you can still visit the other animals in the indoor exhibits, so you won’t miss out on any of your favorites.
Then, to keep warm from the winter chill as you walk among the lights, there are hot beverages available and two different campfire locations for visitors to sit by. But the most exciting attraction this year may be Santa’s Village under the Bicentennial Pavilion. Visitors and their children are able to:
- visit and get pictures with Santa in Santa’s Study
- visit Mrs. Claus’ Kitchen to decorate a cookie
- see Santa’s reindeer in Santa’s barn
- navigate the Snowflakery mirror maze
- purchase a holiday drink at the Peppermint Twist beverage hut
- Go to Season’s Gifting hut to give or receive gifts
- Visit the Mistletoe Kisses Gazebo
- the South Pole where you can visit some penguins
- Ride the carousel and White River Junction Train
