What are the Honda warning lights?

A warning light coming on in your car can either be a minor problem or a sign of a coming apocalypse. With new features constantly being added, the indicator lights have evolved past the simple check engine light.  Here’s what you should do if your dashboard lights up with any of these.

Brake

The brake light coming on can mean one of two things. The most likely is that your vehicle is out of brake fluid, and by simply pressing gently on the pedal, you should be able to figure out if your brakes are in working condition. If they behave normally, continue on your way, and check your brake fluid when you arrive at your destination. If they act abnormally, begin to slow you vehicle immediately and get it looked at. The brake light will also come on it the parking brake is engaged.

Lane Keeping Assist System

If your vehicle is equipped with Lane Keeping Assist, you will see this icon when it is malfunctioning or off.

Lane Departure Warning

If this icon is blinking, it is advising you to guide your vehicle back into the lane. If it stays on, there is a problem with the system.

  Supplemental Restraint System

This icon indicates that there is a problem with one of the airbag systems or seat belt tensioners.

Malfunction Indicator Lamp

Check Engine Light

This icon is fairly well known as the check engine light. It can come on for anything from the emissions control system to a loose fuel cap. A blinking check engine light means that a cylinder has misfired, and you are advised to stop the vehicle and let the engine cool down.

What to do if the indicators come on

If any of the indicators come on, and stay on after you turn off the vehicle, it would be wise to take it in. Schedule an appointment at Indy Honda, which offers services that range from regular maintenance to muffler and exhaust repair. If your vehicle needs parts, check the eStore or place an order.
